Liver ( anatomy and deseases)
The liver is the largest solid organ found in our body. It is located in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen and partly protected by the ribs. The liver, a dark reddish-brown organ, has multiple functions. The liver regulates most chemical levels in the blood and excretes a product called bile. Bile helps to break down fats, preparing them for further digestion and absorption. All of the blood leaving the stomach and intestines passes through the liver. A person cannot live without a liver.
It is very much important to know the early signs of liver damage and we must take good care as much as we can.
Early signs of liver damage:
There are different kinds of liver diseases with its own symptoms. There are: alcoholic liver disease, liver cirrhosis, hepatitis, and fatty liver disease.
- Upset stomach
Upset stomach can be experienced nausea and vomiting that can mean signs for other diseases as vertigo, migraines, motion sickness, food poisoning, depression, early pregnancy ect or problems with kidney. Those persons suffering from early liver damage usually feel persistently nauseous, as the liver has a reduced ability to rid the body of toxins. If we have these symptoms for a few days and don’t know the reason, we must seek medical attention.
- Overall weakness
One of the early signs of liver damage is constantly being tired and weakness. The body must work harder, when the liver is not on good condition. The bloodstreams toxins cannot be cleared out of the body because the liver cannot get rid of the toxins. Medical advice is necessary if the symptoms persist.
- Lack of appetite
If the bile is not working on right way, it cant digest fat in the diet.
If the food isn’t digested in a proper manner, you can experience a lack of appetite as well as a severe weight loss. It is advisable to visit doctor in case ofexperience any of these symptoms for a long period of time.
- Digestion problems
Liver plays import role in the digestion process as bile which helps the nutrients, be better processed and absorbed by the small intestines. If we have problems in digestion process, we must seek for medical advice.
- Changes of the urine color
As a result of the increased bilirubin levels in the bloodstream, the urine may look amber, brown, or orange in color. Dark urine can be produced because of infections of urinary tract, dehydration, enzyme deficiencies, side effects of taking antibiotics, taking B vitamin supplements, or kidney abnormalities.
- Changes of stool coloration
Changes can happened the bile is not made enough by a malfunctioning liver. It can become clay colored, yellow or gray, but not to worry it happens periodically, but if happened often, must seek medical advice.
It is disease that makes yellow coloration to the skin, fingertips, tongue, and eyes as result of increased bilirubin in the bloodstream and in the bodily tissue, which would normally be excreted in the bile. Advised medical care.
- Abdominal changes
Pain and cramping on the lower part of the abdomen can indicate of malfunctioning of the liver. Ascites is one of the early symptoms of liver damage, meaning the fluid has built up inside the abdominal cavity. It actually happens whether there is damage to the liver or liver cirrhosis. Medical advise necessary.
- Retention of fluid
One of the early signs of liver damage is retention of fluid similar to ascites except the fluid is building up in the outer tissues in lower extremities. However, there are a lot of other causes of fluid retention, for instance hormonal imbalances, kidney problems, lymphatic disease, and heart failure. Medical advise necessary.
- Increased skin itching
Skin become more sensitive in liver deficiency and usually itches and flakes and hypersensitive to touch.
- Abdominal Pain
Liver disease can cause abdominal pain in right upper quadrant of the rib cage where your liver is located.
- Internal bleeding, constipation and diarrhea
We can get bleeding of the intestines associated with constipation or diarrhea because of liver diseases. Also, liver problems can cause problems in sex hormone balance so that men can develop breasts, and both women and men can suffer from libido loss.
